Decorating Your Marquee

A comprehensive guide to decorating your marquee…

An important part of the event-planning process, it’s time to think about decorations! If you’re like us, you get a tingly feeling when you step into a Hobbycraft, or see the twinkle of fairy lights. However, if you’re not like us, hopefully this guide will get you excited about decorating. Whether your marquee is for a family get together in your garden, or for your wedding, decorating your marquee is a great way to personalise your event. It doesn’t have to be expensive, difficult or time-consuming. In fact, we find that the best way to make decorating as easy as possible, is to break down the components into a few different sections:

Colours

Choosing a colour scheme will tie your event together, and make for great photos. If you’re stuck on choosing a colour scheme, tying your colours with the outfits of your wedding party, or your corporate logo if it’s a corporate event, is a good place to start. Have a look at this colour scheme generator to spark some ideas as well! Remember not to wash your event in colour. Too much colour can be garish and won’t create the desired effect that you are trying to produce. Rather, pick a few colours, and utilise them wisely. If you want to include striking colours like gold or burgundy, try using these colours as accents to your decorations; for example in the table place-settings, and in the balloons.

Flowers & Foliage

Lilies or roses? Pink or yellow? Neat or wild? The type, colour and arrangement of your flowers should all be taken into account when using them as decoration. Placed in the middle of tables, or draping from marquee walls, flowers are a great addition to any event as they bring colour, scent and personality to a setting.

Finding the right florist is essential. We suggest that you use local florists who sell flowers seasonally. This means that you support the local economy, and you’re doing the environment as favour as well! A favourite of ours is Dillies in Hexham!

However, you may want to be more thrifty than that! If you’re into the wild boho look, why not look around your local woods? Or even your garden. Wild flowers are definitely trending this year, and you can bulk out your bouquets with foliage as well!

Table Decor

There are lots of things to consider when decorating tables. Will you be eating? Drinking? If so, how many courses? What kind of tablecloth will you use? Or will you use a tablecloth at all? We love this photo on the right of the exposed wooden table. The hanging geometric baskets make for a great unique touch to this table decoration as well.

If you have a seating plan, place settings are a personal and useful gesture that your guests will appreciate! If your event is a wedding, perhaps think of small wedding favours you can leave on the tables as well.

Bunting

Add some flair to your marquee by stringing up some beautiful bunting! The variety of bunting you can buy or hire is extensive, and they are great at adding pops of colour to white marquee walls.

They only take seconds to assemble, and they are really effective at completing an overall aesthetic. Bringing a celebratory feel to any scene, we think that this is a must-have decoration for your event!

Lighting

For both evening and daytime events, lighting can be used for more than utility purposes. We believe that every aspect of your marquee should be pleasing to the eye. Therefore, we offer an extensive list of lighting that is both practical and stylish. From twinkling fairy lights, to exposed bare bulbs, we will make sure that your event is sparkling! Marquee walls great for hanging strings of light on without imposing on the interior space; bringing ambience to every event!
